The Foundation for Breast Cancer Care Report

February 2017

Last year the Foundation for Breast Cancer Care has had a great year in it’s short history. Propelling itself off the back of successful fundraising events at the FFBCC Launch, in 2014 on the Gold Coast, and the Black and White with a splash of Pink Gala in Wagga Wagga in 2015, monies raised have been used to support the causes of the Foundation, in particular, we have awarded a Research Grant, looking at (Neo Adjuvant) chemotherapy and immune function(PDL-1 receptors) through the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. We have also been able to fund the high quality performance index additions to the Breast Quality Audit (BQA), through the BreastSurgANZ. All of these are in keeping with our causes ( ).  Last year, we also saw the formation of our first Strategic Plan ( which provides a scaffold for our present work.

On November 25th the Foundation hosted an Art Auction at the Karlangu Aboriginal Art Centre,  The Karlangu Art Gallery is owned by the family of BreastSurgANZ Post Fellowship Trainee, Dr Fred Azimi. All who attended indicated the event was a spectacular success. The Ambassadors for the Foundation were prominent, with both Miss Heather Mitchell, actress, giving a stirring speech about the role that breast cancer survivors can play both in life and on the stage, and again the very talented John Mangos as Master of Ceremonies at the event.

The donations of pieces of art were made by the Azimi’s, and heavily discounted pieces were also on offer for the evening. We thank the Azimi family for their generous support as well as our other major sponsors, Location Property group, Bongiorno’s  and DOMO

This puts the Foundation in a great position, to launch into further projects this year, and a number of key contacts have been made now, both in Victoria and NSW.

I would also like to thank my hardworking Board Members, in particular, Mrs Karen Littlejohn, Dr Chantel Thornton, Mr Vince Lagana, Mr Nick Karagiannis, and Mr Jim Kollias.

The Foundation is definitely on the move, and we have many projects that we would like to look at. We are looking for new members and we are looking for new projects.

Thank you,

Yours Sincerely

A/Prof Chris Pyke
